Spilling Ink
MEDIUM: ACRYLIC + OIL ON CANVAS | 2020 - APRIL • 16" X 20"
Spilling Link is my self portrait painting and it becomes a profoundly personal portrayal, reflecting the shadows of my past self during my formative years in grades 10-11. During that explosive period, I grappled with strained relationships, feeling emotionally disconnected and mechanized. By showing a figure resembling myself, I explore the sensation of being trapped in a robotic existence barren of natural emotion or autonomy.
As the portrait unfolds, the figure begins to solve, symbolizing the incremental decline of my sense of self and the emotional madness I experienced. Splatters of ink fall down the canvas, mirroring the chaos and confusion that destroyed me during that time.
Eventually, my portrait haunts me with its reminder of the darkness I once inhabited, yet it also symbolises strength and transformation. By confronting these shadows of the past, I reclaim my narrative and embrace the journey towards healing and self-discovery.
